Smart object
A Photoshop layer that holds its source content in a separate embedded or linked file, so it can be scaled, warped, and replaced without destroying the original pixels.
In a mockup template, smart objects are the placeholders where your artwork goes. Photoshop stores the placement as a transform (scale, rotation, perspective) plus an optional warp mesh, and keeps the source content intact so it can be re-rendered at any size.
